Four male suspects aged between 20 and 32 were arrested on Sunday, 07 July 2024, for being in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition at the N1 road-Mookgophong Turn-off.
Their arrest stems from information about a murder incident that occurred on Sunday, 07 July 2024, at Boditsane around Mamaolo village in the Lebowakgomo policing area. Allegedly, a male victim was fatally shot while in a local tavern by suspects driving in a white VW Polo sedan with registration number provided, and the intelligence leads found that the vehicle was traveling along the N1 south direction.
Subsequent to the information, members of the SAPS Provincial Flying Squad, Waterberg Flying Squad, and Private Security Companies quickly activated an operation, and the vehicle matching the description was spotted while driving along the N1 road.
The motor vehicle with four occupants, including the driver, was tactically cornered and searched. Two of the suspects were found in possession of unlicensed firearms, whereas two others were found in possession of ammunition. All four suspects were immediately apprehended on the spot.
The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Police, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has welcomed the arrest and commended the teamwork displayed by the Police and Private Security Sector, as they displayed a common interest of fighting against criminal activities within our province.
The suspects are expected to appear before the Mookgophong Magistrate’s Court soon facing charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. Two of the suspects are facing additional charge of Contravention of the Immigration Act.
Police investigations are continuing.
