Police in Komatipoort has responded to a tragic and disturbing incident whereby the body of a newborn baby was discovered in a dumping site at Mjejane near Komatipoort this afternoon, Sunday 07 July 2024 at about 16:20.
According to information, a lady who was passing by the dumping site made a gruesome discovery. It is alleged that the body had already lost its original colour.
Komatipoort police were summoned to the scene. On arrival, medical practitioners were alerted and declared that the baby was no longer alive. Due to the condition of the child’s body, police cannot confirm the child’s gender at the moment pending further investigation.
Police have since instituted an investigation surrounding the child’s death. Currently police cannot confirm if the child was dumped alive or dead.
Police urge anyone who might have information about the child’s mother to contact Komatipoort standby investigating officer Sergeant Vusimuzi Thobela on 072 196 8225. Alternatively members of the community can contact the Crime Stop number on 086000 10111 or information can be sent via MYSAPSAPP. All received information will be treated with high level of confidentiality.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi has condemned such an inhumane behaviour where an innocent child is dumped in a dumping site. Major General Mkhwanazi called the community members to assist police in locating the person behind the child’s death to ensure justice for the innocent child.
“If parents feel that they do not need their children, they rather give them up for adoption rather than compromising their lives, ” said the General.
