The ZF Mgcawu District Provincial Imbizo that was held on 11 July 2024 in Kakamas, preceded a successful high visibility operation on 12 July 2024 in Kakamas and surrounding towns.
The operations were executed under the overall command of Brigadier Irene Kopeledi, the Provincial Head of Pro-Active Policing.
The Provincial Head for Strategic Management and Organizational Development, Brigadier Merle Coghlan participated in the operations, while the operational commander was Colobnel Dries Witbooi, the Station Commander of Kakamas Police Sation.
The operations were supported by members from Provincial Operational Response Services (ORS), Provincial Corporate Communication and Liaison services, Kimberley K9 unit, Upington Public Order Policing Unit (POP), local Community Police Forums, Kakamas, Augrabies, Keimoes and Riemvasmaak SAPS members.
The operations focused on the hotspot areas for drugs, firearms and dangerous weapons, hence several raids were executed at houses and taxi ranks in Kakamas, Keimoes and Augrabies.
The team confiscated Mandrax tablets and Tik worth approximately R45 000-00 at one of the alleged drug houses in Langverwag, Kakamas and arrested two male suspects, aged 31 and 38, respectively.
Both suspects are foreign nationals and were charged with dealing drugs and are expected to appear in Court soon.
Several other disruptive actions saw the search and seizure of dagga that was found at taxi ranks and other hotspot areas.
The mass blue light patrols were welcomed in all the towns and was followed by stop and searches where police confiscated a large amount of dangerous weapons in an effort to combat contact crimes.
The team also executed compliance inspections at several businesses in the mentioned towns.
The Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Policing, Major General Luntu Ngubelanga indicated that the high visibility operations ensured that the streets were swept clean and that criminals were squeezed in their space to operate in the ZFM District.
