Two arrested for theft or infrastructure and possession of copper cable worth an estimated R200 000

Partnership policing makes it possible to crime fighting and remove criminals from the broader public.

On Friday 26 July 2024 at about 22:00, Bloemfontein Flying Squad members received a tipoff from the SAPIS/Syntell Agri E2 private/ SAPS partnership about a white Ford Ranger bakkie travelling on the N6 towards Bloemfontein.

Members swiftly responded to the information and the vehicle was spotted and tactically followed. Upon realising that police are onto them the driver of the Ford Ranger increased the speed trying to get away. However, the high-speed chase did not take long as members of Parkweg and private security had already closed the road on the N1

The vehicle was stopped and two males aged 35 and 36 who are illegal foreign nationals alighted the vehicle. While searching the vehicle members found copper cables worth an estimated R200 000 at the back of the bakkie.

The two were arrested for being in possession of suspected stolen copper cable, theft of infrastructure and contravention of immigration act. Investigations are underway to determine the origin of the stolen loot in the Eastern Cape province and its destination in Gauteng.

They will appear in the Bloemfontein magistrate court soon.
