Members of Welkom Flying Squad were busy patrolling in Jason Street Riebeeckstad, Welkom when they noticed a maroon Mazda with GP number plates with a trailer and a white Toyota Hilux bakkie with FS number plates with a trailer loading sheep on the 27 August 2024 at about 04:00.
Both vehicles were stopped and transportation certificates were requested which appeared to be suspicious, Odendaalsrus Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit member were summoned to the scene.
Preliminary investigation revealed that 52 sheep valued at R120 000-00 were stolen at Wolwepan farm in Welkom district and another case was registered in Odendaalsrus.
The four suspects aged between 31 and 46 were arrested for possession of suspected stolen livestock. Two vehicles and a trailer and two cellphones were seized.
The suspects will appear soon in Welkom Magistrate Court.
