The swift reaction of members from Cookhouse Highway Patrol Unit resulted in the arrest of six (6) suspects aged between 23 and 35 years for possession of two firearms and dealing in drugs over the weekend on N10 near Cookhouse.
A combined high visibility operation was conducted by Cookhouse Highway Patrol and Provincial Traffic with the aim to fight against crime in Cookhouse. They swiftly responded to the information they received about a grey Mercedes Benz that is on its way from Gqeberha and is transporting drugs. They then spotted the vehicle on the N10, and upon searching the vehicle, police recovered two (2) unlicensed firearms (9mm and Norinco) and thirty (30) mandrax tablets. Police confiscated an undisclosed amount of cash, and the vehicle as it was used in the commission of a crime
Six suspects (four males and two females) were arrested and charged for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and dealing in drugs. These suspects are due to appear before the Somerset East Magistrate court on Monday, 26 August 2024.
The Sarah Baartman District Commissioner Major General Zolani Xawuka applauded the members involved for the quick reaction on information shared and said that the trafficking of drugs was disrupted and unlicensed firearms were removed from the streets “Drugs and unlicensed firearm are the biggest contributors to serious crimes.” Major General Zolani Xawuka concluded.
