A female Vervet monkey was injured after she was run over in Buffelsdraai – KZN this morning (Saturday).
The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Operations Centre received a call for assistance from a member of the public at approximately 07:57. On arrival, Reaction Officers located the juvenile monkey on the side of the road. She was unable to move. According to a witness, the monkey was run over by a vehicle and abandoned by its troop. It sustained internal injuries.
Officers transported the monkey to RUSA HQ where she will be uplifted by volunteers from Monkey Helpline.
