The Mopani District Detective and Tracking Team, in collaboration with Mopani Flying Squad, have successfully apprehended a suspect in connection with a house robbery that occurred on 01 August 2024 in Jim Nghalalume village.
During the robbery, an unknown African male intruded into a house and stole cash, valuables, and a cellphone from the victim. The Mopani Detectives and Tracking Team collected evidence to assist in identifying the suspect.
On 12 September 2024, the Tracking Team received information about the suspect’s whereabouts and tactically approached an identified address in Mphagani village. The suspect, a 31-year-old African male, was found in possession of the stolen cellphone and arrested for house robbery.
Further searches revealed a hidden assault rifle, flash machine, and various housebreaking implements in the suspect’s room. He was subsequently arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm, suspected stolen property, and housebreaking implements.
The suspect will appear before the Giyani Magistrate’s Court. Investigations are ongoing to link the suspect to other cases with a similar modus operandi and the recovered rifle in the Mopani District.
