Stolen vehicle recovered through Mi7 surveillance net

Last month, Mi7 National Group’s Control Room received reports of a stolen Mercedes. At the time, they worked closely with the owner to ascertain all relevant details pertaining to the car – information which was uploaded to the Mi7 Surveillance Net.

The Mi7 Surveillance Net is a sophisticated network of 387 cameras using Automatic Number Plate Recognition software to monitor criminal activity across 110+ key locations in KwaZulu-Natal. It is part of the company’s broader Guardian Grid Project, which enhances community safety through expanded surveillance, increased security personnel, and a 24-hour dedicated control centre.

On Saturday, the Mi7 Surveillance Net flagged the stolen vehicle headed into Pietermaritzburg. Mi7 Reaction Officers were quickly mobilised, and were able to find the car on Ohrtmann Road.

The vehicle was brought to a halt and the driver apprehended on site. The owner, as well as the police, then arrived. The driver of the vehicle was an individual known to the owner.

The matter was handed over to the police for further investigation.
