Members attached to Public Order Police arrested a 37-year-old man for the possession of a stolen motor vehicle on Monday, 16 September 2024.
The members were busy with patrols at the Heideveld train station when they pulled over a suspicious Toyota Avanza with only the driver as occupant. The members ensued with a search and upon further investigation discovered that the vehicle was reported as stolen in Samora Machel earlier.
In an unrelated intervention, members of Public Order Police deployed in Nyanga area, searched a premises in Mkhonto Square, Nyanga following information received from the community. During the search, they discovered and confiscated a 9mm pistol without a serial number and seven rounds of ammunition. A 59-year-old man was arrested for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
Furthermore, Public Order Police members were busy with patrols in Philippi East policing precinct when they stopped and searched a male who acted suspiciously when he saw the police vehicle approaching. The members searched the male and found him is possession of an imitation firearm with three rounds of ammunition. The 30 year old man was arrested for the possession of an imitation firearm and ammunition.
The suspects will make their respective court appearances in the Athlone Magistrates’ court once they have been charged.
