A total of 696 Suspects arrested during Operation Shanela in Limpopo Province

The joint weekly high density operations conducted across five districts in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies, sister departments, and Community Policing Forum structures commenced on Monday, 30 September to Sunday 06 October 2024.

During operations, 696 suspects were arrested across the province.

Police actions and activities carried out throughout the operation include tracing of wanted suspects by detectives, roadblocks, stop and searches, vehicle and premises searches, compliance inspections, and high visibility patrols.

Significant arrests were affected consisting of murder 12, assault GBH 108, assault common 64, rape 18, burglary business 06, burglary residential 09, malicious damage to property’s 20, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs 10, illegal possession of firearms 06, dealing in drugs 07 and other crimes 189.

Compliance inspections were conducted at second-hand dealers and liquor premises, as well as formal and informal businesses and scrapyards.

The inspection led to the closure of 23 unlicensed liquor premises.

Police confiscated 148L of alcoholic beverages, 6.4kg of dagga, 0.03g of crystal meth, 0.8g of nyaope, 02 counterfeit goods, 06 firearms, 86 ammunitions, 05 dangerous weapons, 03 vehicles, 22 652 packets of tobacco, and cash to the value of R28 364,00.

The suspects will appear before their respective Magistrate’s court.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo, Major General Samuel Manala, expressed his gratitude to members and stakeholders for collective efforts and actions executed during this period.

He further appreciated the community for sharing valuable information with the police.
