Benoni collaboration leads to numerous arrests

The Benoni Flying Squad arrested eight suspects, recovered three motor vehicles, dagga and one blank firearm.

On Monday, 28 October 2024 at around 15:00 members responded to a security company needing back up in North Rand Road, Boksburg where they had pulled over a white Suzuki Swift bearing false number plates. The vehicle is allegedly wanted on numerous vehicle breakings and thefts. Upon searching the vehicle members found a signal jammer and various vehicle breaking implements. The three (03) occupants aged 22 to 50 years were immediately arrested.

On the same day at around 18:30 members acting on information arrested a 44-year-old suspect on N12 close to Tom Jones in a white Toyota Cross. The vehicle had false registration plates but investigation found that it was reported hijacked on a Boksburg North case.

On Tuesday evening, 29 October 2024 around 20:20 members patrolling the N12 Highway after Putfontein off-ramp pulled over a white Toyota Hilux. A search led to the recovery of a large number of bags of dagga in the back with an estimated value of around eighty thousand Rand (R80 000.00). The 44-year-old suspect was immediately arrested.

The members took part in a joint late night operation leading into Wednesday morning including the DPCI Tactical Operations Management Section (TOMS), Brakpan Crime Prevention and security companies.

Three suspects wanted on a Brakpan murder case were arrested. One of the suspects was found in possession of a replica blank firearm containing five live rounds of ammunition.

Furthermore, two abandoned stolen motor vehicles were recovered, a silver Toyota Yaris at Swazi Section, Daveyton reported on a Parkview case and a white Jaguar F-Pace at a shopping centre, Impala Park, Boksburg reported on a Springs case.

Investigation continues in all cases.

The suspects will be appearing in the local Magistrate’s Courts facing charges of possession of vehicle breaking implements, possession of a hijacked motor vehicle, possession and dealing in dagga, murder, possession of a dangerous weapon and unlicensed ammunition.
