Community justice for murder suspect in Hazelmere

Community justice resulted in the death of a man who killed one of his friends and injured a second during a stabbing incident in Hazelmere – KZN.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to the scene at approximately 08:25. On arrival, Reaction Officers discovered the lifeless bodies of two males lying next to each other in a yard. One was covered with a white blanket and the other was exposed.

One individual sustained stab wounds to his Sternum and left Humerus. The second male suffered extensive blunt force trauma to his head and body. While attending to the scene, Officers were informed that a third male was located at a tuck shop approximately 200 meters away. RUSA Paramedics treated him for a stab wound to his left buttock.

It was alleged that all three individuals were friends. Two of the men were walking along a pathway when an altercation ensued. One of the males produced an Okapi knife and stabbed his friend in the buttock before he fled. He proceeded to another friend’s house a short distance away and stabbed him twice.

The community apprehended the suspect and beat him to death with sticks and boulders. Details leading up to the stabbings were not established. All three individuals were allegedly under the influence of alcohol. Residents complained that the suspect had a history of stabbing people in the area.

The injured male was expedited to hospital by ambulance.
