JMPD Officers make significant arrest in Hillbrow robbery

A successful operation by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Tactical Response Unit has led to the arrest of three male suspects, aged between 21 and 48, who were involved in a robbery and assault incident in Hillbrow, Johannesburg.

On the evening of Saturday, November 09, 2024, JMPD officers were conducting routine patrols in the vicinity of Park Station when a male victim approached them. The victim reported that he had been robbed of his cell phone and stabbed in the chest at Smit Street. He provided officers with detailed descriptions of the suspects and their getaway vehicle.

In a quick response, the JMPD officers initiated a high-speed chase. The suspects’ vehicle, a blue Toyota Cressida, was intercepted at the intersection of Harrison and De Villiers Street in Marshalltown.

Upon searching the vehicle and its occupants, officers recovered the victim’s stolen cellphone, an “okapi” knife, and five used cartridges. The victim was able to positively identify the three suspects at the scene.

Emergency medical attention was provided to the injured victim, and a case of Robbery and Assault GBH has been opened at the Hillbrow Police Station. The arrested suspects were and are expected to appear in court soon.
