Joint role-players of Operation Vala Umgodi; South African Police Service, South African National Defense Force and Department of Home Affairs manned a crime prevention roadblock on N1 National Road near Ventersberg. Five persons were arrested for being in the Republic of South Africa without proper documents; 376 motor vehicles, 582 persons were searched and 10 firearms tested during the roadblock.
The operation was extended to searching the G-Hostel Units in Constantia Street, Thabong Extension 4. The team seized one Phenduka with a stand, eight steel balls, four steel pans together with gold bearing material weighing at 59,26 kilograms.
Three suspects aged 19, 28 and 44 were also arrested. Cases of Possession of suspected gold bearing material, gold processing equipment and Contravention of Immigration Act were opened at Thabong Police Station. Suspects were then detained in police custody.
All suspects will appear in Court soon.
