Flat on fire in Belvedere

A female was injured and a man suffered smoke inhalation during a fire at their ground floor flat on Azad Avenue in Flamingo Heights – KZN.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to the block of flats at approximately 05:18. On arrival, Reaction Officers were informed that the couple were woken to a smoke filled apartment. They were unable to locate their keys due to the thick black smoke. They broke a window and climbed out of the flat.

The female sustained a laceration on her arm from the broken glass. She was transported privately to a medical facility. Her partner was treated for smoke inhalation by Paramedics from a private ambulance service. The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen.

The Ethekwini Fire Department extinguished the blaze.
