The vigilance of members attached to Bishop Lavis SAPS led to the arrest of three suspects aged between 16 and 30 and the recovery of three firearms and ammunition on the same day.
On Monday, 06 January 2025 at about 06:55, the members were patrolling in the Valhalla Park hotspot areas to curb ongoing shootings in the area. They stopped and searched two suspicious looking males and retrieved a firearm with ammunition from one of them.
Later the same members were patrolling in the same area when they heard gunshots went off and immediately ran towards the direction where the shots were coming from. The members found two suspects, one with a loaded firearm and ammunition and the other one in possession of an extended loaded magazine.
As they made their way to the station they noticed more suspects running in between the shacks of which one of the suspects dropped a firearm which they also recovered.
The arrested suspects will make their first court appearance in the Bishop Lavis Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 08 January 2025.
Western Cape SAPS management expressed their sincere gratitude to these members for their bravery and contribution to make the Bishop Lavis precinct a safer place for their community.
