The presence of members of the Anti-Gang Unit who are deployed to quell ongoing gang violence in the Cape Flats, reaped success when these members seized a substantial amount of ammunition a firearm and drugs, yesterday.
On Saturday, 18 January 2025, the members acted on information received of a possible firearm which was kept at a specific address. The information took the members to a premises situated in Crusader Street in Delft where they conducted a search during which they discovered and seized one hundred (100) 7.62 rounds of ammunition, hidden in a cupboard in one of the rooms. As a result the members arrested a 37 year old man for the illegal possession of ammunition.
Further investigation into the discovery led the members to a residence in Coronado Street where upon arrival, the owner incited his three Pitbull dogs to attack the members who had to discharge rubber rounds to evade a vicious attack by these dogs. The owner of the dogs was arrested for inciting the dogs to attack the members. The members continued with a search of the premises upon which they discovered a Taurus pistol with nine 45 calibre rounds of ammunition and ten mandrax as well as sachet containing tik.
The 21-year-old owner of the dogs will now also face charges of the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as the possession of drugs.
Both suspects are expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court on the mentioned charges, once charged.
