Lejweleputswa, Free State – A motor vehicle accident occurred on the R30 between Brandfort and Theunissen on January 3, 2025, at approximately 11:50. The collision involved a heavy motor vehicle (HMV) and a light motor vehicle (LMV).
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel responded to the scene, where they triaged five patients. Two females sustained severe injuries, while a 17-year-old female suffered moderate injuries. A 9-year-old male sustained minor injuries, and a 44-year-old female succumbed to her fatal injuries.
Four patients were transported to Bongani and Mediclinic hospitals in Welkom for further treatment.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) was on the scene to investigate the cause of the accident. Provincial Traffic and EMS personnel were also present to assist.
Fortunately, the accident did not cause any significant disruptions to traffic, with both lanes remaining open for traffic flow.
