Coordinated efforts by the police and private security led to the apprehension of four undocumented suspects for illegal mining and trespassing at Kleinzee mine on Tuesday, 28 January 2025.
The multi-disciplinary teams of Operation Vala Umgodi were conducting vehicle and foot patrols at illegal mining hotspot areas when they received information from Vetus security members about alleged illegal mining activities taking place at Kleinzee Mine.
The members swiftly reacted and operationalised the information. Upon arrival four male persons were found engaging in illegal mining.
The four suspects between the ages of 25 and 40 were subsequently arrested and the equipment that was used in the commission of illicit mining were confiscated.
