Endeavours by Garden Route District police to eradicate substance abuse and rid communities of drugs yielded positive results with the arrest of two men and the confiscation of drugs with an estimated street value of R160 000 during crime combatting operations.
On Tuesday, 28 January 2025 members attached to the Knysna police and Crime Intelligence embarked on an intelligence driven operation at Main Street, Knysna. The information led the integrated team to a man who was spotted outside a cellphone repair shop. The vigilant members proceeded with a search of the man during which they found 480 mandrax tablets and 50 grams of tik in his possession. Police confiscated the drugs and arrested the 33-year-old suspect on a charge of dealing in drugs.
Further investigation took police to a house at Jabulani Street, Concordia where the suspect resides. A thorough search of the premises ensued, leading to the discovery of a parcel containing drugs concealed in the ceiling. The members confiscated 1788 mandrax tablets and 90 halves as well as 50 grams of tik.
Furthermore, on the same day 28 January 2025 at about 05:00 members attached to the Garden Route District Crime Combat and Knysna Crime Prevention unit members armed with a search warrant conducted a targeted operation at a premises situated in Alemein Street, Hornlee in Knysna. A search of the premises led to the confiscation of 10 bankies tik, 59 mandrax tablets and 33 bankies of dagga. The occupant, a 32-year-old man was subsequently arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs.
Both suspects remain in police custody. They will appear in the Knysna Magistrate’s court once charged.
