At around 7pm, officers on patrol observed a male making a run for it when he saw them.
They gave chase and heard him shouting, warning his friends of the police presence.
The officers found two males in a nearby structure, busy counting illegal substances.
Officers recovered a scale as well as 785 Whole Mandrax Tablets and 160 packets of tik, with an estimated street value of nearly R32 000.
The duo, aged 23 and 26 were arrested and detained at Philippi SAPS.
While this is likely only a fraction of that which is flowing around our communities, a part of the large consignments of drugs along with the constant source of illegal firearms that continuously find their way into our City, with each arrest, we hand over all the evidence, exhibits and suspects over to SAPS for further investigation and prosecution.
Where did these suspects obtain these drugs, and which gangs are they linked to? All important questions but without sufficient investigative resources, or the required will to drive the investigative and prosecution process, things cannot change.
This is why we are campaigning to our Minister of Justice- to grant us these additional powers that will allow us the authority to investigate, and to further assist SAPS, allowing us to start bringing meaningful change.
