The Sedibeng POP members were patrolling on the R28 when they noticed a silver corolla driven by male foreign national and stopped the vehicle for normal stop and search.
While searching the vehicle the man informed the officials that their brother was kidnapped on Saturday, 25 January 2025 and that they received a call to bring the ransom money on R558 in exchange of their brother.
The officials planned a take down and instructed a hand over of the money so that they could approach.
Two suspects came to fetch the ransom money on R558 on foot walking with a victim, when suspects noticed the officials, they began to shoot in the direction of the law enforcement officials and members retaliated as suspects ran back to the bushes while shooting.
Members requested back-up and a search was conducted with the assistance of Gauteng Traffic Police Air-wing.
The GTP Air-wing together with the Sedibeng POP, Sedibeng K9, JMPD, Westrand K9 amongst other officials managed to apprehend one suspect with an unlicensed firearm, 5 catrages, and 6 live ammunition.
