Police members seize drugs, unlicensed firearm and ammunition

The determination by the Western Cape police members to eradicate the illegal distribution of drugs and rid our streets of illegal firearms and ammunition turned out successful when members arrested several suspects for dealing in drugs and for the illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

On 06 January 2025 at 16:30, Woodstock SAPS members received information of a known person attached to a local gang who was in possession of a firearm and ammunition. The members immediately followed up on the information and spotted the BMW vehicle which matched the description provided on the corners of Chester and Warwick Street, Woodstock. The vehicle was pulled over and the five occupants and the vehicle were searched. The members found a 9mm Taurus firearm and seven 9mm rounds of ammunition in the vehicle. The five suspects aged between 25 and 29 were arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

They are due to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 09 January 2025 on the mentioned charges.

In an unrelated matter on Sunday 05 Jnuary 2025 at 20:15, members of Maitland Flying Squad were busy with patrols when they spotted a silver Jeep which was allegedly involved in a home invasion that occurred in Bellville on Wednesday, 01 January 2025. The members approached the vehicle and found two occupants whose particulars were shared with the investigating officer who confirmed that the occupants were wanted suspects he was looking for. The two suspects aged between 28 and 33 were arrested and detained at Bellville SAPS.

They are due to appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court today (Tuesday, 07 January 2025) on the mentioned charges.

On Sunday, 05 January 2025 at 09:20, members attached to Lamberts Bay SAPS executed a search warrant at Boom Street in Lamberts Bay after receiving information about drugs being stored at the mentioned address. Upon arrival the owner saw the police members approaching and tried to close the door but the members managed to enter the premises. The members caught the suspect with a red plastic bag in his hands which contained mandrax tablets, small sachets of tik and an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be the proceeds of crime.

The members arrested the 50-year-old man for dealing in drugs for which he will appear in the Lamberts Bay Magistrates’ Court today (Tuesday, 07 January 2025).
