Man Shot By Policeman In Life Insurance/Murder Plot: Durban – KZN

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) was called out to Madrona Drive in Trenance Park – KZN this afternoon (Friday) at 20:06.

The RUSA Operations Center received several calls of a Shooting in Progress. Upon arrival on scene a 34 year old man was found lying in a pool of water with gunshot wounds to his chest & back.

A woman kneeling beside him identified herself as his sister.

While Paramedics were working to stabilise the critically injured man, Reaction Officers interviewed several witnesses who noticed a man fleeing immediately after the shooting. The suspect was wearing an SAPS logo on his jacket. The victim then ran several meters from the scene and collapsed in a yard.

When Reaction Officers questioned the injured man in an attempt to establish the identity of the suspect, he explained that he had received a call from his friend who is a Policeman based at an SAPS Station in the Ethekweni Region (details withheld). The Policeman allegedly requested to meet the victim after work and provided him with drugs he had recovered whilst on duty. The victim further explained that the Policeman had met with him this evening and provided him with drugs which he immediately consumed. The Policeman then left and asked him to meet at 20:00 in a dark area on Madrona Drive & promised him more drug capsules.

Reaction Officers were further informed that when the victim met at 20:00, the Policeman pulled out a pistol and began firing at him. The Policeman then fled when several people noticed the victim running from the scene in an attempt to save his life. The man further informed Reaction Officers that the Policeman had taken his Identity Card three (3) months ago advising that he was arranging a Life Insurance Policy that would benefit his family in an event of his death. The victim believes that the three (3) month waiting period had expired & that the Policeman had attempted to murder him for financial gain. He advised Reaction Officers to check on the Policy alleging that the Policeman who is also his immediate neighbour had paid the premiums, added himself as a beneficiary onto the Policy & intended on murdering him. Reaction Officers could not immediately verify this information.

The victim was expedited to a local hospital (details withheld) in a critical condition.
