A 55 year old male was robbed by three suspects while walking to the taxi rank in the Verulam CBD – KZN.
The victim arrived at Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Headquarters at approximately 08:36. He explained that he intended on boarding a min bus from Verulam to KwaDukuza – KZN.
Two suspects grabbed him from the rear and a third individual confronted him with a knife on Moss Street. He was robbed of his Itel cellphone and R200 in cash before the robbers fled through the crowded streets.
A previous gang responsible for a spate of robberies in the Verulam CBD – KZN was arrested by Reaction Officers and the Verulam SAPS. A replica firearm was also recovered during the operation. The robberies have since subsided, but it appears that a new gang has emerged. The suspects are believed to be drug users.
The victim in today’s incident declined to register a criminal case.
