In a collaborative operation, multiple law enforcement units-Gauteng Traffic Police Airwing, SAPS Counter Intelligence Investigation Head Office, DPCI Gauteng Multi-Disciplinary Tracking Team, SAPS Gauteng TRT, SAPS Anti-Gang Unit, CAP Specialised Operations, Tracker Connect, and Bad Boyz Security-tracked down a syndicate involved in retail store robberies, hijackings, and other violent crimes.
The suspects had been using a Toyota Etios sedan, which was linked to multiple crime scenes. Intelligence indicated that they were planning further criminal activities in the East Rand, prompting the deployment of officers in the area.
The team successfully intercepted the vehicle on R554 Road, Sunward Park, where they apprehended three (3) suspects. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of: Two (2) unlicensed firearms, Ammunition and False registration plates.
Further investigation has linked these suspects and their vehicle to over six (6) business robberies at retail stores across Gauteng and neighbouring provinces.
