A 53-year-old man, who is the owner and Director of a security company in Nelspruit has been arrested by members of Organised Crime within SAPS Detective Services in Mpumalanga on allegations that he sold dozens of firearms, including rifles and pistols to another security company then reported these firearms as stolen. The individual in question is facing charges of perjury after subsequently filing a false report of theft of firearms, despite being fully aware of the sale transaction.
It has been brought to the attention of the men and women in Blue that the firearms in question were sold to a legitimate entity, which had duly registered these firearms, making it impossible for law enforcement authorities to confiscate them. The alleged actions of the accused pose a serious threat to public safety and the integrity of the law enforcement process.
The suspect is expected to appear at the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court today, 05 March 2025 facing the said charges. More charges could possibly be added against the suspect as the investigation continues.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr.) Zeph Mkhwanazi, commends the investigative team for uncovering these irregularities. The General has emphasized the importance of firearms control, especially in light of their frequent use in violent crimes. He expressed concern over the serious nature of the allegations, particularly when they involve individuals within law enforcement agencies. “The SAPS in Mpumalanga remains committed to upholding the law and ensuring that justice is served. We urge members of the public to report any suspicious activities or irregularities related to firearms to the authorities, ” said the General.
