In the early hours of Thursday morning, 27 March 2025, members of the Western Cape Public Order Policing descended on a premises in Mlonji Street, Ilitha Park, Khayelitsha, where they searched a premises following information about a male who is in possession of a firearm at the premises. The members found the suspect and searched him upon which they found a revolver in his possession, leading to his arrest for the possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Furthermore, members of Public Order Police deployed in the Gugulethu policing precinct searched a premises in NY112 where they arrested a 28-year-old male who was found in possession of a 9mm pistol with ammunition. The same members searched a premises in NY137 and confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition, subsequently arrested a 36-year-old man for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Khayelitsha and Athlone Magistrates’ Courts once they have been charged.
Efforts to rid communities of unlicensed firearms in the hands of criminals will continue and an appeal is made to the public to report any criminal activities on the MySAPS Application anonymously.
