At 11:04 AM, our control room received an urgent call reporting a possible trespasser at a property located on 1st Avenue, Linden. Within three minutes, our first responding officers arrived on the scene at 11:07 AM and swiftly secured the area.
Upon entering the premises, officers apprehended a male suspect who was found scavenging for metal pieces, copper wire, and other valuable materials. It is believed the suspect intended to sell these items at a nearby scrapyard. When questioned, the suspect claimed he thought the property was unoccupied and assumed no one was living there.
Further investigation revealed the suspect’s method of entry: he jumped over the gate, crawled through a broken window, and accessed the roof by entering through the ceiling board. It appeared the suspect was attempting to strip
whatever remaining materials were left from an already looted house.
Linden SAPS was contacted to assist with the case. The situation is being handled, and the investigation is ongoing.
