Two-year-old Aariya Sewnarian is in a critically condition in a High Care Unit (HCU) at a hospital (name withheld) in Durban – Kwazulu Natal after falling off a balcony at a creche.
Atholl Brett Sewnarain (father) of Montford in Chatsworth made contact with Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) reporting that his daughter had suffered a fractured right skull resulting in an Extradural Hematoma & internal bleeding. He informed Reaction Officers that Aariya had an Emergency Craniotomy for Evacuation of the Hametoma & remains in a stable but critical condition. She is unable to move.
Sewnarian informed Reaction Officers that his daughter who was born in February 2023 had attended the Honey Bunch Day Care in Chatsworth – KZN for approx. two months. On March 6th, 2025 his wife Shivana Sewnarian received a call from the Principal requesting that Aariya be fetched after she had fell on the concrete while playing outside. On a second call to the school, the mother was informed that two kids were fighting that resulted in a fall.
According to Sewnarian, the creche had misled them. He added that he had viewed the CCTV at the creche & his child
was left unsupervised on the balcony on the first floor of the building. She then fell to the ground from several meters above while playing. According to an informer, the creche has since deleted the CCTV footage in an attempt to cover up negligence. This has not been confirmed.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) did not attend to the scene & information was supplied by the father of the injured child.
