Laingsburg SAPS members arrested two suspects aged 37 and 38 in connection with an alleged damage to essential infrastructure on Saturday, 05 April 2025 at 07:00.
The members were conducting patrols in the Bergsig area when they observed a significant amount of smoke coming from a veld near the residential area in Bergsig.
Upon further investigation, they discovered two suspects engaging in the act of burning copper cables. The suspects were apprehended at the scene and charged for the possession of presumed stolen property (copper). A thorough examination of the seized cable revealed that it belonged to Transnet.
Transnet officials were notified to confirm the ownership of the seized cable and to provide additional information on the value.
The two suspects will appear in the Laingsburg Magistrates court on Monday, 07 April 2025 on the mentioned charge.
