A concerted effort by the multi-disciplinary team of Operation Vala Umgodi resulted in the arrest of five suspected drug dealers during weekend operations that commenced on Friday, 16 May 2025.
The operation, which included high-visibility patrols, stop-and-search actions, and targeted raids, yielded notable successes.
In the ZF Mgcawu District, the MAJOC Operation Vala Umgodi Roving Team, in collaboration with the Kakamas Crime Prevention Unit, conducted raids on three properties.
The searches led to the discovery of suspected Mandrax tablets, crystal meth, and dagga with an estimated street value of R18,000. Three male suspects, aged 37, 42, and 51, were arrested and charged with dealing in drugs.
Meanwhile, in the Frances Baard District, members received information regarding drug activity in the Phuthanang area. Acting swiftly on the information, the team raided a shack and confiscated Mandrax tablets, and crystal meth valued at approximately R42 000, and an undisclosed amount of cash suspected to be proceeds of crime.
A 37-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with drug dealing.
In a separate incident, another individual was arrested in Currey Street in Kimberley after being found in possession of illegal substances.
Additionally, several suspects were fined under the Road Traffic Management Act during vehicle checkpoints (VCPs) conducted in the Namakwa and Frances Baard Venue Operational Centres.
All arrested individuals are expected to appear in court soon.
