Eight illegal immigrants, aged between 21 and 48, are expected to appear at Barberton Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 27 May 2025 subsequent to their arrest during Operation Vala Umgodi in Barberton on Monday, 26 May 2025.
According to a report, members were conducting stop-and-search on R38 road in Barberton. It was during this time when the team apprehended the eight males and charged them for Contravention of the Immigration Act as they failed to provide valid documentation to be in the country. During the operation, a metal detector and mine lab machines were found abandoned.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr.) Zeph Mkhwanazi appreciated the continuous work done by the team members assigned for Operation Vala Umgodi in Mpumalanga.
