The ongoing operation Vala Umgodi conducted separately on Monday, 26 May 2025, in the Capricorn, Mopani and Vhembe Districts, resulted in the arrest of five suspects for illegal mining and contravention of immigration laws.
Two suspects aged 35 and 36 were arrested for illegal mining of sand at Sebayebg policing area in the Capricorn district.
During the arrest one truck, a white Hino was confiscated. The suspects were spotted loading sand in a truck, and upon approaching them, they failed to produce a mining permit.
Meanwhile, in Mopani and Vhembe Districts, three suspects aged between 25 and 40 were arrested for contravention of immigration laws at Maake, and Malamulele Policing areas.
The arrested suspects will appear before the local Magistrate’s Court soon.
The Police investigations are ongoing.
