The SAPS in Nelson Mandela Bay is committed to win the fight against crime and removing illegal firearms from the street to ensure that the community are and feel safe.
On Friday 23 May 2025, during a joint operation between the Nelson Mandela Bay District Crime Combatting Unit and the Provincial Crime Intelligence, two suspects were apprehended and five firearms confiscated. It is alleged that on abovementioned date at approximately 19:30, the SAPS members were at Thekwene Street, Chris Hani, Kwanobuhle following up on information. The members tactically approached the residence and during the search of the house the members arrested the two suspects, aged 20 and 27. The members confiscated the following:
1 x 9mm Parabellum firearm with 15 rounds of ammunition;
1 x 9mm Norinco firearm with 8 rounds of ammunition;
1 x 9mm Norinco Star with 8 Rounds of ammunition;
1 x Girsen 9mm with 13 rounds of ammunition and
1 x Glock 9mm with 13 rounds.
1 x Glock 9mm with 13 rounds of ammunition (all serial numbers were removed from firearms) and five damaged cell phones.
The suspects were detained on charges of unlawful possession of prohibited firearms and unlawful possession of live ammunition. During the investigation, the detective will probe the possibility of linking the suspects with other cases within the Nelson Mandela Bay District. The suspects will appear in the Kwanobuhle Magistrate’s Court on Monday 26 May 2025.
