The police in Limpopo have made a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking with the arrest of a 38-year-old foreign national caught in possession of drugs with an estimated street value of R150,000.00 in Mokopane, Waterberg District.
On Friday, 09 May 2025, at approximately 15:30, members of the Provincial Organised Crime Unit received credible intelligence regarding a foreign national selling drugs in the Mokopane town area. The suspect was reported to be operating from a white Volkswagen Polo TSI with Limpopo registration.
Acting swiftly on this information, SAPS members, supported by a private Security Company, conducted an operation in the area. The suspect’s vehicle was spotted along Thabo Mbeki Street in Mokopane town. Upon noticing police presence, the suspect attempted to evade arrest by speeding away, which led to a brief pursuit.
After the vehicle was successfully stopped, officers conducted a search and discovered a box containing Kat drugs on the passenger seat with an estimated street value of R150,000.00. The suspect was immediately arrested on charges of dealing in drugs and possession of drugs.
The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 12 May 2025.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the members for their swift action and vigilance in apprehending the suspect. “This arrest is a clear demonstration of our unwavering commitment to ridding our communities of the scourge of drugs. We will continue to intensify our efforts to disrupt drug trafficking networks operating in our province,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
