Eight suspects aged between 20 and 42 will soon appear at Booysens Magistrate’s Court.
The suspects were arrested during an integrated economic infrastructure operation which was held around Mondeor policing precinct from 29 to 30 May 2025. The operation was a joined effort between the SAPS, PRASA, and private security companies.
The aim of the operation was to address the scourge of economic infrastructure related crimes in the area.
During the operation, 02 suspects aged 25 and 35 were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Six undocumented persons were also arrested. The police also confiscated 02 pistols, 22 shotgun rounds, 54 rifle rounds, 11 pistol rounds, 01 penduka, and 02 generators.
The Johannesburg District Commissioner Major General Nonhlanhla Kubheka applauded the members and other law enforcement agencies for their continued efforts to intensify operations aimed at combating essential infrastructure related crimes, removing illegal firearms from the streets and she also encourage the community to provide the police with information or tip-offs related to the theft of cables and damage to essential infrastructure.
