Operation Shanela remains relentless and continues to combat crime in Limpopo Province

Operation Shanela, the weekly multidisciplinary high-density operation that commenced on Monday, 05 May to Sunday, 11 May 2025, at all five districts in Limpopo Province, resulted in 629 suspects being apprehended.

The operation involved various police activities such as vehicle checkpoints (VCPs), stop and search, compliance inspections, tracing of wanted suspects, and hostel searches.

During Roadblocks:
▶️7363 vehicles were stopped, and
▶️5516 persons were stopped and searched.
▶️758 Licensed liquor premises were inspected.
▶️5401 informal businesses were inspected.

Operational successes achieved included 629 suspects arrested for possession of dangerous weapons, illegal dealing in liquor, dealing in drugs, assault GBH, common assault, illicit mining, and driving under the influence of alcohol.

The police confiscated:
▶️396,272 liters of alcoholic beverages,
▶️13 Ammunitions,
▶️169 packets of tobacco products,
▶️2989kg of dagga,
▶️01 Firearm and
▶️07 Cellphones.

The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, welcomed the results achieved and urged members to remain consistent and dedicated to ensure the safety and security of all citizens in the province.
