The persistence of the police members attached to Ravensmead Crime Prevention Unit were rewarded when they detained two suspects for the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition in isolated incidents on Thursday 08 May 2025.
The police members were busy with visible crime prevention initiatives when they responded to information about an identified man, allegedly in possession of a firearm. The members noticed a man who fitted the description in Parkdene Street, searched him and recovered a pistol with ammunition found in his possession. They detained the man for the unlawful possession of a firearm with ammunition.
The members returned to the same area in Parkdene Street later in a bid to conduct stop and search operations. Whilst executing duties they saw a man running away from them in an attempt to evade them, but the members gave chase and apprehended the man who was searched. They found a revolver with ammunition in his possession which resulted in him facing a charge for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Both suspects are due to appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 12 May 2025 on their respective charges.
