A crime intelligence-driven operation by Lichtenburg Visible Policing and K9 Unit members led to the arrest of three cash-in-transit robbery suspects on Tuesday, 27 May 2025.
The members were on duty when they received information about the cash-in-transit robbery that occurred along the N18 (Mahikeng / Vryburg) road as well as the lookout of the suspects’ vehicle; a white Volkswagen Polo. The vehicle, matching the given description, was eventually spotted and stopped along the R52 (Lichtenburg / Koster) road, in Lichtenburg. Upon searching the vehicle, a substantial amount of cash was found in possession of the vehicle’s three occupants. Further investigation into the matter positively linked the suspects with the robbery.
All three accused, Molefi Pogiso Andries (36), Ngobe Phinius Sethamane (47) and Mudau Benny Nyambeni (43), appeared in the Lichtenburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 29 May 2025. The treble were remanded in custody until their next court appearance on Tuesday, 29 July 2025, for a bail application.
The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) is investigating.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the North West, Major General Patrick Asaneng has commended the swift response and alertness of members of the Lichtenburg Crime Watch as well as Visible Policing which led to the arrest of suspects more than 90 kilometres away from the crime scene after a lookout was given to neighbouring police stations. He indicated that the arrest is yet testament to the effectiveness of partnership policing and the importance of social crime prevention initiatives such as Farm and Neighbourhood watch.
“I have established and instructed a multi-disciplinary Investigation and Tracing Team led by Crime Intelligence, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) and the Tactical Response Team (TRT) to relentlessly pursue the other outstanding suspects who managed to evade arrest after the crime was committed. They should not find any rest or place to hide nor time to enjoy the proceeds of their heinous crime. Anyone with information that could assist the police should contact their nearest police station. Anyone who knowingly aids or assist or harbours these dangerous criminals including their friends or next of kin, will be arrested and prosecuted.
