The Anti-gang unit members arrested four suspects on Saturday, 14 June 2025 for possession of unlicensed firearm, malicious damage to property, interfering with Police duties and possession of stolen motor vehicle in Newclare and Eldorado Park.
It is reported that at approximately 19:45, the members of the Anti-Gang Unit were conducting patrols at Dowling and Hamilton Avenue in Newclare, when they stopped and searched a 21-year-old suspect, finding an unlicensed firearm with a filed-off serial number in his possession.
It is alleged that during the arrest, the suspect’s parents aged 46 and 48 years old, interfered and pulled him away from the police. The situation escalated as community members joined in, throwing stones at police vehicles. The police responded by calling for backup and firing a warning shot to stabilize the situation.
The police subsequently arrested the suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm and his parents for malicious damage to property and interfering with police duties.
In a separate incident the Anti-Gang members arrested a 43-year-old suspect for possession of a stolen motor vehicle in Eldorado Park Extension 01. While patrolling the area the members spotted a silver Ford Figo occupied by three men. Further investigation revealed the vehicle had been stolen, with a case of theft reported at Mondeor. When police attempted to stop the vehicle, the occupants fled, leading to a high-speed chase. During the pursuit, the suspects fired shots at the police. One suspect was arrested for possession of a stolen motor vehicle, while two suspects fled the scene.
All four suspects will appear before the Magistrate’s Court soon. Police investigations are ongoing.
