The Petrus Steyn police, with the assistance of the community, arrested four suspects from Mamafubedu near Petrus Steyn found digging copper cables inside the new Nketoana Municipality graveyard.
It’s alleged that on 3 June 2025 at about 11:15, the community of Mamafubedu informed the police of people who were digging inside the new municipal graveyard. The police attended to the complaint, found the suspects, searched them and found pieces of copper cables in their backpacks. The three suspects were arrested at the crime scene.
At about 12:00, the fourth suspect was spotted by local detectives already in Mamafubedu township carrying a backpack. Upon seeing the police, he dropped the bag and tried to flee but was caught. His bag was found with copper cables. The four suspects were charged and appeared before the Petrus Steyn Magistrate Court on 4 June 2025 for possession of suspected stolen property.
The three accused, Teboho Alex Mokoena (32), Tshediso Radebe (24), and Bongani Mbongwa (33), are out on free bail, while Sello Mofokeng (23) remains in custody awaiting trial. The fourth accused is expected to appear before the same court on 27 July 2025, and further investigation continues.
