Hawks arrest suspect for alleged unlawful dealing in explosives

The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation in collaboration with Crime Intelligence and Tactical Response Team (TRT), arrested a 32-year-old suspect on Thursday, 12 June 2025, for alleged unlawful dealing in explosives.

The suspect was arrested in Kanana township following an intelligence drive operation. This follows information received about a suspect alleged to be in possession of explosives stolen from a mine and were being sold. The team operationalised the information and nabbed the suspect soon after selling the explosives for R10 000.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Orkney Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 17 June 2025. North West Hawks acting Head, Brigadier Silas Munzhedzi, has commended the team’s swift action in apprehending the suspect.
