The Western Cape SAPS continue to demonstrate its commitment to ensure public safety through proactive operations to combat crime and to rid communities from illegal firearms and drugs.
On Thursday, 19 June 2025 at about 11:00, members attached to the Tactical Response Team (TRT) responded to information they received about firearms, drugs and ammunition being held at a premises in Mohan Road, Gatesville, Athlone. Upon arrival at the mentioned address they ensued with a search and found 15 full mandrax tablets, 54 half mandrax tablets, seven 9mm rounds of ammunition and an undisclosed amount of cash believe to be proceeds of illegal dealings.
A 41-year-old man was subsequently apprehended for the possession of drugs and ammunition and is due to appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court once charged.
