A 38-year-old Malawian male was arrested in Emndeni, Soweto, on Friday, 20 June 2025, after he was found in possession of two pistols and an AK-47 rifle. Police are on a lookout for three more suspects who escaped from the scene.
Police Officers from Naledi in Soweto were conducting a stop-and-search operation when they noticed a suspicious vehicle with four occupants. As they stopped the vehicle, the driver ignored the police and accelerated, instead. Police gave chase until the suspect’s vehicle crashed into a tree. All four suspects jumped out of the car and fled. Police were able to apprehended one of the suspects who was found in possession of a pistol. Upon searching the vehicle, police found another pistol and an AK-47 rifle with ammunition.
It is believed that the suspects were enroute to commit a robbery. The search for the suspects who fled from the scene is underway.
The Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mthombeni, commends the police for their wise observation as they conduct operations.
