On Sunday, 13 July 2025, the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) displayed exceptional operational capabilities while executing stop and search duties in Westbury and Eldorado Park.
During these operations, the AGU members encountered a male exhibiting suspicious behaviour along Kackilijan Street. A subsequent search led to the seizure of 67 ziplock bags containing substances suspected to be CAT found in the possession of the 32-year-old suspect. As a result of the simultaneous operations executed, the AGU team arrested 22-year-old male along Boloberg Street, Eldorado Park Extension 2. The team seized a total of 33 ziplock bags containing substances suspected to be Crystal Meth, and 16 halved tablets suspected to be Mandrax, found in his possession.
In a separate operation, the AGU acted on information regarding a wanted suspect linked to two (2) recent attempted murder cases in Sophiatown. The 23-year-old suspect, allegedly affiliated to one of the gangs, was traced to a residence in Westbury, where he was positively identified by an eyewitness, and informed of his arrest for two counts of attempted murder.
Brigadier Maphoto, the AGU Commander emphasised the team’s commitment to recovering the weapon used in the attempted murders, with ongoing operations aimed at this objective.
The suspects have been detained at local police stations and are expected to appear in the respective courts soon.
