The driver of a white Opel Corsa bakkie that overturned is believed to be in a critical condition.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to newly developed area opposite Trenance Park – KZN at approximately 17:37 (Friday) after receiving multiple calls for assistance from bystanders. On arrival, Reaction Officers discovered the bakkie lying in its roof several meters below road level. The occupants could not be located.
Reaction Officers interviewed several individuals from a large crowd that gathered at the scene. It was established that there were two (2) occupants in the vehicle. The driver allegedly changed the battery on the vehicle before he took it for a test drive.
He was travelling down a steep hill when the brakes allegedly failed. The road ended and the vehicle travelled down an embankment before it overturned. The driver walked to the main road where he collapsed and became unresponsive. He was seriously injured and expedited privately to a medical facility.
His passenger was believed to have sustained minor injuries.
