On Saturday, 12 July 2025 from 09:00 to 13:00, the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department ( EMPD) By-Law and Compliance Unit Officers together with the Truck Towing Unit Officers, conducted an illegal mechanic operation in the Boksburg, Katlegong and Germiston areas.
This operation follows numerous complaints from community members about illegal mechanics operating in residential areas and on public roads. Previously, warnings were issued to those mechanics, but they refused to adhere to the warnings that were issued to them.
During the operation eight vehicles, including a white Toyota sedan, a white VW Polo hatchback, a blue Nissan LDV, a gold Ford Bantam, a white Nissan NP200, a white Ford LDV, a white Ford hatch back and a black KIA SUV impounded. Toolboxes containing 4x Jacks and 1x Hammers were also confiscated.
The impounded vehicles and confiscated tools, were booked at the Alberton and Boksburg pounds.
