Johannesburg district police apprehended over 450 suspects during weekend operations

GAUTENG – The Joburg District Commissioner Major General Nonhlanhla Kubheka applauded the members and other stakeholders for ensuring the safety and security of the community of Johannesburg.

Over 450 suspects were arrested for various crimes during operations that were held throughout Joburg District from Friday, 18 July 2025, to 20 July 2025. These operations include operation Shanela, station commander’s operations, high density operations, and adhock roadblocks.

The police joined by other law enforcement agencies, apprehended about 77 suspects for various crimes during Operation Shanela 2, which was held around Eldorado Park policing precinct.

Another 94 suspects were also arrested for various crimes during the station commander’s operations conducted by different stations across the district. The police also arrested 23 suspects for driving under the influence of liquor. During the operations, which were held by Jhb District crime prevention members around Roodepoort policing precinct, 2 suspects were arrested for possession of drugs. The police also confiscated 39 shotgun rounds at Princess, 04 superpower cartridge, and 06 detonating cord at Durban deep. During an operation that was held in Booysens, 03 suspects were arrested for possession of drugs.

An additional 34 suspects were arrested during the high density operations, which were also conducted by different stations across the district.

During the adhock roadblock held along the N14 freeway in Diepsloot and N1 Grasmere toll Plaza in Lenasia South, 08 illegal immigrants were arrested.

The detectives also traced and arrested about 214 suspects for different crimes that include contact crime, contact related crimes, property crime, and other serious crimes.

Some of the arrested suspects appeared at various magistrate courts.
